Costa del Sol Golf Web Scam Warning – Beware of Richard Allard

We know a few of our members enjoy a round of golf (or three).

A member would like to draw your attention to a scam by Costa del Sol Golf Web – and Richard Allard the “brains” behind the scam.  Seems like he is happy to accept full payment (by bankers draft) but not actually book any accommodation or tee times.  It’s left our member’s party of twelve £5000 short and they’ll have to fork out again.

He uses a virtual office address of  International House, 223 Regent Street, London, W1R 8QD  but our member has tracked down his real address.  Contact us if you’ve been ripped off also and we’ll pass your details on.

His web site still appears to be trading (we’ll not give it any creedance by linking sirectly to it here) and asking for deposits which prompted our member to ask us to place this warning to help others who have fallen for the scam.  Small claims court action is looming and the net is closing in on Richard Allard.

Subject: pay smart weddings

We have signed up to this scheme. The idea is great but we received nothing we were promised from these guys. We handed over, over £220. I have had many conversations with pay smart about a refund. I don’t think you realise how hard it is to get hold of them. There is 1 lady that answers the phone. She said I was getting very aggressive on the phone. This was at the point that I had asked for a refund 2 weeks before. The refund still has not come and I have basically written of the money. I really don’t think that I would get it back. I would however like yourselves, if you have it, Tim Jones’ personal number. I have been promised a call back from him but as you can guess, that never came. I have also delved into it a little deeper.

Hawk Jenson group who we were told that have recently taken over pay smart, have an “active” status on companies house website. The reasons are: accounts due in 2009 and not yet received. Never submitting any accounts. Hmrc cannot find them.

So in probably less than 3 months time they will be closed down and no longer exist. Although this sounds awful we can do something about it. I spoke to companies house and they explained that if the company is closed with outstanding contracts we can apply by email to slow the process down and at least give us a chance to get our money back.

Also I found out that the address they give and the picture they show of their offices is a ‘virtual office’. Which means it looks very nice on the pictures and seems very professional. But in reality it does not exist.

So if anyone knows where this location is then please let me know. If you would like to possibly club together and do something about this loophole that hmrc keep leaving open then you can email me @ gshutzy@msn.com.

p.s. I am a salon owner in Lytham and Cleveleys.

Look forward to hearing from you

Warning – don’t get sucked in to the .co “revolution”

Just had a high powered sales pitch (which I don’t normally listen to but did on this occasion) from “Business Search Local”.

They have purchased a number of the new .co domains and are actively trying to sell space on them at vastly inflated prices.

.co is a new suffix.

They tried to sell me exclusive content on the Blackpool domain they have for £2000 for 12 months.
Even though they don’t appear anywhere on Google yet.

Members….please please please don’t get sucked in by this sales pitch.  Google carry very little creedance to these names as yet and they will **possibly** get same sort of result as .info or .biz…eventually

They certainly do NOT currently carry enough clout to get any return for a rental investment.

Please be careful before you part with your hard earned dosh.

I am perfectly happy to give FREE impartial advice with anything internet related.  So before you sign on the dotted line ask me for my comments.

regards
Doug

Hi Doug.
Thanks for the warning, although had already had the same hard sell sales pitch this morning.

The lady didn’t have a lot of patience when I started asking questions and she had to be asked numerous times how much the hosting would cost. She seemed to be pushing for me to agree to having a listing before a price was quoted. I was also quoted £2,000 for 12 months.

Kindest regards
Veronica

PaySmart Holidays, Hawk Jensen, Tim Jones: Beware of these

We keep getting reports about these trading identities –  from members and non members.

Let’s start by stating that if you receive a visit or telephone call from anybody using these names be very very cautious about giving them any of your time or money.

Pay Smart’s latest victim was a retail shop in Cleveleys who had a visit and felt pressurised into signing up.  After a little research after the salesperson left the shop they must have found this blog and cancelled the cheque.  The writer reports feeling very pressurised and that the saleperson was very miffed that she didn’t pay in cash.

A member also writes that he applied for a refund…well, actually lets just repeat his email here and then you can judge for yourselves.

=================

I’m writing with regard to the hawk jensen group better known as paysmart holidays.  Futher to your e-mail about this company we joined with them.

Having recieved no contact from them we rung them and asked for our money to be paid back which was in the agreement having recieved no guests fom them.

On the 26/8/2010 we took a booking from them for two couples for three nights.

This booking was did not exist.  Nobody showed.  We didnt get any payment.

Having spoken to two other hotel owners who have a contract with them they have done the same to them.

I would like you to let any of our members who have a contract with them to be aware of this

Kind regards the xxxxxx xxxxx

=================

So…it seems that now they are making false bookings and not only is the accommodation NOT going to get any money for these bookings they are, presumably, blocking off the rooms expecting guests to arrive.

We need to re-iterate to our members (and any other readers of our blog) that before you part with your children’s inheritance to anybody from Pay Smart Holidays, Pay Smart Weddings, Pay Smart Funerals you should be very, very, very cautious.

As Theo Paphitis might say: “I’d rather stick pins in my eyeballs than invest in this scheme!”

regards

Doug

Business Rates – latest “Valuation Office” unsolicited phone call and email

One of our members just had a phone call from Richard Howarth, “Business Development Executive” from the “Rating and Valuation Agency Ltd”

It seems the latest plan of attack is to actually name neighbours he says they are “working with” to reduce rates.

The actual definition of “working with” seems to be that he sent a similar email (and/or phone call) to the neighbours as well.

Yes!Hotels would like to remind members that it is very unlikely that this type of company can save you money and if you contacted the Rating Office at Blackpool Council they are more than happy to take you through the procedure to question your rates yourselves!

EVEN IF they state no reduction no fee – they have a way of twisting things that WILL cost you money!!

Be careful out there before you sign up for any of these schemes to do with “reducing your Business Rates”

Visit Britain – money well spent?

Just in from Barry at the Fame who’s a little cheesed off to say the least.
We can’t blame him really.
We’d be interested to hear more from Visit Britain members and, of course, we’ll present all comments – good or bad (though we do have our own views on why they simply are not good for seaside towns).
Oh….we’re hearing snippets of information that they are going to be moving the goalposts yet again – more on this when we verify it.
==================================================

Hi Yes Hotel Members,

It is whinge time, we has just had our 5th VisitBritain Inspection. 5 years ago we were classed as a low grade 3*, this hotel had never graded before we came and it was the pits. Now we have a new Inspector for the Blackpool area but she is not like the nice lady on the telly – I think she is a *****. We have spent £186,000 on our hotel taking it up to a very high standard, but on 27th July we had an overnight stay, to say we got slapped in the face with a wet fish is an understatement!

Our breakfast menu consists of 8 choices of cereal, grapefruit, prunes, yoghurts, eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, toms , mushrooms , hash browns,  toast (brown or white ) & preserves , tea / coffee. But now we are told we should have more variety and, wait for it, offer smoked salmon with Scrambled eggs.

Our bathrooms are not large enough, towels need to be changed to bath sheets, Egyptian cotton sheets for bed linen, we only use 3* duvet covers , We must provide a higher grade of biscuits in the rooms (Foxes or equivalent), hot chocolate , fruit flavour tea etc.

Oh yes and put higher grade carpets in rooms.

All this for just £50.00 per night per double room!

We are now rated as a high grade 3*, Can anyone tell us the difference please, (answers on a postcard) we are either a 3* or not?

Next year I am making my own sign to be placed below my Yes Hotels sign , it will have 5 Pork Pies on it, just to see if it brings anymore business in. The 3 *** certainly don’t seem to!

My whinge is over now but please all you VisitBritain members be warned! This woman, did I mention that I think she is a *****, always finds something, is it really worth £350.00 per year to be told every year you are no better and that you must spend yet another small fortune that makes no commercial sense with no chance of getting your money back just to maintain your rating?

Pay Smart Holidays – the saga continues

PLEASE NOTE: We received an email from a former employee of Pay Smart Holidays. He has since asked us to remove it.

We would advise our members to be VERY cautious if dealing with PaySmart or Hawk Jensen Group

If any accommodation providers (members of Yes Hotels or not) have EVER received any bookings via this scheme we’d be interested to hear from you.

Car Clamping and Towing

Hi YES HOTELS

One of our guests has just had to pay £275 in CASH ONLY to a company named “Car Park Security”
There are 3 car parks on Cocker St / Cocker Square area. The car park in Cocker Street is Council owned, the other two on Cocker Square are one is Council and one is PRIVATE OWNED.

Now what happened in this instance is that our guest parked on Cocker Square in the Council Owned car park, and used her car during the day, when she got back to the car park at 5pm the car park was full, and naturally she thought the car park joined to it was owned by the same company, BIG MISTAKE!! It is PRIVATE OWNED.
When she passed her car at 10pm it was still there, when she passed at 4am returning from wherever? It had disappeared.

On phoning the Police, they told her it had been towed away, and gave her the phone number of “Car Park Security”
When she phoned them, they were rude and arrogant, and they were because I tried to speak to them also.
They insisted that he comes to the Hotel, they hand over £275 in Cash, and he will take them to the Compound to release their Car.
The two young girls did not want to go in a car with a stranger? and too right? why should they?

When they phoned the police, they did not want to get involved, and would not say where the compound address was, as the girls wanted to make there own way there?
Luckily a taxi driver, had been there before, and took them to the compound. and they did their NUT, because they overruled them.
Now if any of the Yes Hotel members guests experience the same thing, this is the highly kept secret that the “Car Park Security” and the “Local Police” do NOT want US the KNOW, the compound address is – Queen Victoria Road, Blackpool

Shhhusss Don’t let any one know we know this highly kept secret?????

So the moral of this incident is : DO NOT PARK on the PRIVATE car park on Cocker Square, the one closest to the Manhattan Hotel.
And just to let you know, if it would of been the Council that towed it away, the charges would of only been £130.
And when I spoke to the Council’s agents who tow cars away, they would of let these girls off anyway, as it was a simple mistake, and there are NO signs warning parkers of who OWNS which car park.

ALL this is NOT good for Blackpool Business?
